Mudbox to Maya Workflow

Tried porting a Mudbox sculpt into Maya. In order to retain the detail I ported the highest level mesh which left me with a figure that had a shit load of polygons. I set Maya to reduce the polygons by 50%. When I came back an hour later the PC had frozen. I don’t know whether this was a freeze or whether Maya was still working. After speaking with Daryl it became clear that I had made a mistake in trying to port over the high level mesh. The thing to do is to port the base mesh and create a displacement map of the higher level mesh.

I have no idea how to do that, but then that’s why I’m an university.
